SkyLines -Boggy Creek Park (Austin, TX)
Fiber optic cables, Electronic elements

Boggy Creek Park, Austin, TX
SkyLines began with the desire to create a floating sculpture that inspires the sense of awe I feel when looking up the night sky. The installation transformed an underpass, a forgotten and unused space, into a fantastical illuminated landscape. The work created an environment that inspired a dance and musical performance. The illuminated fiber optic cables change color slowly from one moment to the next, blending colors that emanate from the computer-controlled LED lights at either end of each line. The parallel choreographies of the dancers interacting with the work and the programed light changes reference my ongoing investigations of how the body interacts with art in public spaces. The calming, colorful display floats in the transformed underpass, creating a sense of wonder and quiet as visitors look up and experience magic in an unexpected place.
