My work addresses the complexities that lie in the in-between spaces: the tension between structure and fluidity, systems and chaos, movement and transformation, perception and reality. Inspired by alternative architectural methods, I create these structures by transforming flat sheets of mylar and vellum into complex three dimensional forms. I explore the three dimensional world we live in and the ways that the forms that surround us inhabit that space.
Experimenting with delicate, translucent materials I am searching for new ways to understand the relationships between line, form, planes, and volume. The balance of structure and flexibility in the material is both a challenge and an asset. I am especially attracted to the translucent quality of the mylar and vellum. This element contributes the ephemeral quality of these light, airy pieces, alluding to the fragility of the world. Shadow and light are as integral to the final image as the physical materials. The pieces change and transform with differences in light and perspective and at times seem even less substantial than the shadows that they cast.
