When I made the original Expanding Landscape (Sculpture) I immediately imagined the experience of living within the work. What if viewers could experience the sculpture from different angles, walk into the sculpture and be surrounded by the undulating forms? During my residency at PlatteForum I was fortunate to realize Expanding Landscape (Installation) at a scale that had lived in my head for several years. Made from only mylar and monofilament, the work transforms the gallery space with shadow and light. Both the form and the penumbra it creates are part of the work. Inspired by alternative architectural methods, the sculpture focuses on extending the transformation of flat two dimensional materials into complex three dimensional form that I began in Expanded Landscape (Sculpture). As my first large scale installation, Expanded Landscape (Installation) serves as the springboard for my practice as it moves more and more into the environment and world around the piece.
