Heading West Projects
Heading West is part of my Color Wonder Projects. My love of translucence, light and color is a thread that runs through my work as a sculpture artist. I often describe light and shadow as my mediums. On a drive from West Texas to New Mexico I was taken by the landscape--the mountains, clouds, and wide expanses of land which layered into each other in a dynamic, shifting composition. In recreating this landscape I used the translucent quality of acrylic to achieve a similar composition in which the colored shadows are as important as the acrylic material. Using custom hardware to allow space for the shadows, I created a three dimensional sculpture reflective of my own emotional landscape from that Western drive. The essence of this body of work is the exploration of color theory and the way color can impact the emotional quality of a space. I use bright, rich colors to invoke feelings of joy and wonder.
