I have been playing with and thinking about topography, layers, and ways to communicate change and growth in my work for many years. Though technically a static sculpture, the individual lines in this sculpture overlap and create moire patterns that imply movement. My goal with this project was to create a piece that connected directly to the essential nature of the financial work of the office and communicate the company's environmental concerns. As I played with the iconic graph lines associated with the changes in the financial market and experimented with layering them on top of each other I realized that they created a topology. It was a natural fit to create a landscape for this client project. The graph is a mathematical tool that tracks change over time; geography is a very different record of change over time. The intersection of these two seemingly disparate concepts resulted in a piece resonated with my own ongoing interest in landscape and three dimensional forms.
