November News

Lots on News this month.  Not to mention EAST!

  • Modern Rocks Gallery

  • "Unseen Hendrix" - at Modern Rocks Gallery, Friday 7th November, 7pm to 10pm. Previously unseen live photographs of the legendary Jimi Hendrix, taken by Austin photographer, Robert Hewgley in 1969 will be unveiled in the gallery for the first time.  To commemorate this exciting world exclusive, Modern Rocks Gallery and Robert Hewgley have collaborated to print sets of strictly limited edition photographs especially for this premiere show, signed and numbered individually by Robert. The event is being filmed by the art channel "Ovation TV" with hand crafted cocktails by Deep Eddy Vodka.

  • Lynne Brotman

  • Three of Lynne Brotman's fiber pieces will be shown at the International Houston Quilt Festival October 30th- November 3rd. They are part of a series " Twelve Voices Into One" featured in the Fiber Art Special Textile exhibition section.

  • WPA Studio

  • This is happening at the WPA studio on First Saturday, November 8, Bldg. 3, Unit 102.
Come visit the WPA studio and check out 3 techniques that would be perfect for printing on fabric: Lumi sun-sensitive dye, screenprinting (including how to set up your own home exposure unit), and linoleum relief prints--three techniques perfect for PrintAustin's Print Exchange. (Check outhttp://printaustin.org/calls-for-entry/ for more info on the exchange as well as two other calls for entry). The WPA studio will be open from 12-6, but demos will be happening from 3-6. Come join in!
Demos for using Lumi dye will focus on prints made with transparencies as well as shadow prints using found objects. Visitors will get a look at the wide range of colored dyes available. Our Lumi demonstrator will also play with diluting the colors for a pastel effect and mixing or overlapping dyes for new colors. A laptop will be available during the demos so visitors can see the Lumi guides on their very inspiring website.
  • No. 4 St. James

  • Visit the No. 4 St. James Texas Showroom
    Thursdays & Fridays 10am - 4pm

We often get requests to experience our Texas-based products in person—to smell the various flavors of Cat Spring Yaupon Tea, try on the Original Texas Tactical Hats, or see just how shiny our Copper Mexican Mule Mugs really are. So we've decided to open our Texas Showroom to the public two days each week. Come on by and touch and feel the best Texas product brands in person.
And while you’re here, see what the No. 4 St. James team is up to. Daily, our studio is a creative space where we meet with product makers, conduct photo shoots, and brainstorm our next Texas adventures.
    Come by and say hello!
