This summer was a season full of inspirations and my personal #artheroes. After a field trip to MASS MoCA, a three-hour car ride away from the Sculpture Space residency, my mind was racing with a burst of creativity and motivation.
The museum is a converted factory building complex, filled with all forms of contemporary art from many talented and forward-thinking artists.
Here are just a few of my art heroes and their astounding works at MASS MoCa!
- Sol LeWitt
(A Wall Drawing Retrospective - Sol LeWitt)
LeWitt is famous for his minimalist art with geometric and architectural structures. A Wall Drawing Retrospective presented at MASS MoCa consists of 105 wall drawings spanning his career. Covering nearly a whole acre of walls in a three-story historic mills building, walking through this exhibition is a one of a kind experience.
- Anish Kapoor
(Untitled, Anish Kapoor)
Using highly polished stainless steel, Kapoor transforms the material into large-scale mirrored sculptures, carefully engineering the reflections into compelling distortions. Looking into his sculpture was like entering a new dimension!
- Anthony Howe
(source: Anthony Howe, https://youtu.be/bZlK2lfKqZU)
Howe is an American kinetic sculptor who works with wind and movement. His interest in metal resulted in grand metal sculptures that come alive with the wind.
Of Inclining Wonder was extraordinary as it worked its magic and gave me much motivation for my own kinetic works!
Seeing and learning more about the works of my inspirations at MASS MoCa was an unforgettable experience. Safe to say, lots of pictures taken and my creative mind is fully recharged!
